Bernard Evans was a landscape painter and cousin of the author George Eliot. He was a prolific artist travelling and painting throughout the British Isles and on the Continent. His first works were exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Arts in 1864 and in 1880 he was the driving force behind the creation of the City of London Society of Artists.
