Cubley painted widely in the south of England and in Scotland where he was well known for his highland cattle scenes. He favoured oil on board for this vivid impressionist style seascape.

  Kelly was a prolific painter of local scenes. His drawings were very precise, giving a hard edged appearance to cliffs and rocks. The view today is not much changed, except for some less attractive properties erected in the 1960s and 1970s.
